Interesting Quote: Carl Safina

I came across this quote in a blog entry by author Carl Safina. I am also reading his book “Song for the Blue Ocean” right now, and I highly recommend you pick it up.

If you crave mystery, learn everything you possibly can, and the mystery of existence will so rapidly expand it will be like a supernova in your brain. It will leave you gasping for breath.

There’s nothing to be afraid of, except fear itself.

Safina’s entry was a response to an opinion article about how we should never take away the mystery of the ‘colossal’ squid (a gigantic, deep-sea dwelling squid) by finding one of these illusive creatures and studying it.

There is something to be said for mystery. Safina argues that we increase the depth of the mystery by learning, and I couldn’t agree more. Wherever life takes you, whether it be the operating room or graduate school, you should always pursue the things that intrigue you.

The Love of Mystery by Carl Safina.
